Well, my 30th birthday is less than two months away now. Time is running out for me to finish my lists of things to do before hitting this milestone age.
I really tore through that list of self-nurturing items, except I haven’t given myself a day of sloth yet. The experiences/accomplishments list, well the marathon is out of the way and the feeling that gave me was so incredible, I don’t care about anything else. I am growing my own tomatoes now, but I didn’t ever decide on another item for the list and I definitely have not become an exotic dancer yet!
And the last list, the foods to try list? Well, that one is probably the most neglected list. I tried sashimi and it turns out that I really like raw fish. So it was time to knock another item off the list – snails!
We went to Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel/Resort with a specific goal: order the Escargots de Bourgogne appetizer.
The snails were served in a smokin’ hot cast iron dish with six little spots for each snail. They weren’t served in the shell, which was both disappointing and a relief at the same time. I guess I’m glad that I didn’t have to attempt pulling the meat out of the shell myself, because I might have flung a snail across the room. And the taste?
I actually really liked them!
I don’t think it’s something I would order on a regular basis, but if someone took me out and was buying them, I’d definitely eat them again. They were buttery and garlicky, so of course those are good flavors! The snail was a little rubbery, but not too much so and it definitely wasn’t an unappetizing texture.
Unfortunately the rest of our meal was a little disappointing. I ordered a chicken/mushroom crepe that had a yummy white wine cream sauce with just a hint of lemon. The problem was that it was DRENCHED in the sauce, making it nearly inedible for me. The pieces of meat and the veggies that were just lightly covered in the sauce, those were good. But the crepe was soaked to the point where it wasn’t enjoyable to me. And Kevin ordered the Croque Monsieur, and the ham was all cold on the inside.
