Notable:
Andrew Wilson, in the role of Razor, was awesome. He’s the brother of Luke & Owen Wilson, which you can tell if you listen to his voice.

Let’s celebrate mediocrity! That’s fantastic.

Rating: PG-13 for sexual content including crude dialogue, language and drug material

My Thoughts:
This movie made me want to have a roller derby name, throw on a short little skirt and kick some ass on a track. Seriously, roller derby looks like it would feel so empowering. I guess that’s kind of the same feeling I get from running, but not quite the same.

I had no clue in what year this movie was supposed to be set… the music and clothes seemed kind of retro, but they make mentions of parents installing GPS in a teen’s car… things of that nature. But that was just a weird little quirk, overall the film was so much fun for me.

My friend Bethany twittered that if the whole acting thing doesn’t pan out for Drew Barrymore she definitely has a future with directing. ;-) I agree! Her acting role in this isn’t really huge, she really lets all the other amazing talents take the spotlight. I loved how all the people in this looked more like real people than a lot of films where the stars are so made up they don’t look like humans you encounter on a day-to-day basis. And while maybe the overall pattern of the movie is a little cliche, it doesn’t matter because it’s entertaining.

4 out of 5 stars

  1. roller derbys are cool. At least, they’re painted that way in the movies. And the way teens dress today, it could easily be the 80′s again.
