State of the Wardrobe

Outlook: Grim

From viewing photos, one might think I only own a couple items of clothing.

Shirt – So I have this blue t-shirt that I got at Target and it’s super comfy and it’s easy to make it match anything. So I keep wearing it. Apparently everywhere.

Denver – September 2006
Tower of Doom

San Diego – October 2007
Giant Leaves

San Diego – June 2009
Jill on the Midway

Jacket – Another item is a jacket I purchased at The Gap several years ago. I tend to take it on vacations a lot because it’s easy to throw on with various items and it doesn’t look like I’m wearing some touristy windbreaker all over. But it, too, has been to several locations.

Pismo Beach, CA – May 2007
Jill

San Francisco – July 2008
It's just me!

San Antonio – November 2008
Jill at The Alamo

Washington DC – June 2009
Washington Monument

This is just sad… I am now at a point where I feel dumpy and frumpy in most of my clothes. But every time I try to find something new, I just leave the stores feeling sad and hopeless. But browsing through my Flickr photos and realizing that I wear the same two items everywhere, that’s even more sad and hopeless.

But it’s also kind of funny.

* Full disclosure: I’m pretty sure I’m wearing the same pair of denim trouser jeans in several of those pics. They just travel so well!

  1. Or…maybe it means you picked a couple of classic items that look good and can be worn anywhere! ;-) I tend to do the same things with my clothes, wearing them forever when I love them. Though mine don’t last that long, I stain them or rip them way before three years have gone by!

    I really like that jacket.

  2. That is awesome! I understand about purchasing clothes, too. I was packing for Cedar City/Bear Lake and where ever else we have gone… and noticed I packed the same ‘Happy Valley’ Green T-shirt. I love this shirt. AND I realized I have too many photos with me in that t-shirt. I unpacked it. I was sad to leave it behind…. especially when we went to Bear Lake. I think I’ll wear it today!

  3. It’s okay, Jill… I own about 1,000 shirts, but wear the same three all the time.

  4. Ditto. I have some outfits that have been on so many adventures with me that they should have their own blog or twitter account.

  5. It must run in the family. :-) If you haven’t noticed, in most of my pictures, I am wearing Aire tee-shirts.

  6. I just keep ordering the same t-shirts in the same colors…so, it’s not the SAME, but it IS the same.

    I feel ya.

What Not To Wear? Start watching that show and get inspired. (It worked for me…YET, I still didn’t go shopping…NO WHERE TO GO in the clothes). BUT, it could give you great ideas. TLC on Friday nights.

This is BY FAR your best post yet. SO FUNNY

  7. Bethany: I like the idea of considering them “classics”, but I secretly know the truth – wardrobe-inept! ;-)

Melissa: At least you caught that before you packed the same shirt!

LVGurl: I never see you in the same stuff, you always look great!

Cardine: I think that would be funny, a shirt having it’s own Twitter account.

DannO: You’re right, you do wear the same shirts frequently. But you’re not wearing an Aire shirt in the picture above! :-)

Retro: Oh, I watch What Not To Wear… it’s pretty inspiring. But do you know what it’s inspired me to do? It’s inspired me to CONSIDER things. Like last night’s episode, inspired me to consider that I might look good if I dyed my hair darker. But I have no idea how to apply what they say. :-)

  8. It helps if you can find a store that you really like and one where their clothes fit you well. I know that seems obvious, but I tend to buy a lot of my clothes in the same place. I know what sizes work for me and they represent my style perfectly. It also makes it easy because I don’t end up having to go to several different stores, which I don’t like to do.

I also believe that if you find something you love, buy it in other colors. My current uniform consists of the same shirt in 4 different colors. Then I mix it with different bottoms and jackets. It works really well and I don’t feel like I’m wearing the same thing day in and day out.
