Ghost Town

This film is yet another victim of poor Hollywood marketing. I swear, the whole industry thinks we’re unable to like films unless they are slapstick, gross-out humor or full of big explosions and shootings. So the marketing of this film kind of indicated it was more laugh-out-loud than it was. In reality, it was full of subtle humor and drama and emotions.

Once I realized that, I enjoyed the subtlety. Ricky Gervais does a nice job in the role of the dentist that is a lonely grump. Greg Kinnear’s performance managed to evoke a range of emotion from me, from anger and annoyance and sympathy.

This seems like the type of film where the quiet nuances would emerge more and more on repeat viewings. This is yet another film that shows the importance of human connection. Kudos to the cast and crew on this.

  1. Excellent review! Now I really want to see this. :-)

Also, I love your new banner quote! April 24th, wasn’t it?

  2. April 24 or 25th… I’m not 100% positive. (I guess I could Google it, huh?)
