I slept on the same pillow for years. I literally mean YEARS and YEARS…. I moved out of a crib and then used the same 2 pillows until I got married. Yeah, that’s probably way longer than the lifespan of a pillow should be.
But eventually, the pillow was dying off. It wasn’t as comfortable and sadly I knew it was time to move on. (Yes, I was sad… I never carried around a blanky or anything, but having those pillows was kind of a self-soothing tool.)
And for the next 8 years I bought a new pillow about every 8 months, constantly looking for the next perfect match. Nothing ever seemed right so I kept moving on to the next one.
Since I raved about my Sleep Number bed on here, Select Comfort contacted me and asked me if I was interested in trying something new in regard to pillows. (How did they know I was constantly unsatisfied with my pillow? Are they watching me?)
Anyway, their latest feature in the quest for perfect sleep lets you personalize a pillow – Pillowology. You get to pick the middle, the outer and the protective covering.
The pillow I built is:
Outer Comfort: Down Alternative (shapeable and hypoallergenic)
Inner Support: Memory Foam (pressure point relief)
Protector: InBalance (temperature balancing & hypoallergenic)
It’s pretty cool when the pillow arrives, because you get to put it together yourself. Okay, maybe not everybody is excited about “some assembly required”, but I liked it… this step allows you to customize the pillow even further. The outer shell has differing layers of filling on each side, so you can adjust which side you want directly under your head.
I’ve been sleeping on it for about a week and so far I like it. I’m constantly changing it though, since I can disassemble it and “transform” it into something new! I have to test all the variations, right? My only real complaint right now is that it doesn’t fit into a regular pillowcase very well once it’s all assembled.
Hopefully this is a solution to the quest for the perfect pillow. Because if it is, then I can focus on the on-going quest for the perfect purse.
