Ghost Ship

Plot:
A salvage crew that discovers a long-lost 1962 passenger ship floating lifeless in a remote region of the Bering Sea soon notices, as they try to tow it back to land, that “strange things” happen.
From the IMDB Profile

Notable:
I read the movie was originally conceived as a “relatively bloodless psychological thriller”, that’s certainly not what this turned into… Wonder what happened with that plan?

Quote:
Congratulations. You found a boat. In the middle of the ocean, of all places.

Rating: R for strong violence/gore, language and sexuality

Ghost Ship

I have to admit, this movie wasn’t as completely atrocious as I feared it would be. But I wouldn’t necessarily call it good either.

The movie starts off with a bang… or a slice… or however you want to describe it. Basically there is a scene where a lot of people are chopped in half by a cable. A LOT of people. And that scene does serve the purpose of grabbing you and saying, “Hey, pay attention… something cool could happen throughout this movie!” The blood is all really theatrical and goofy looking, not realistic and I actually appreciated that. Sometimes the realism of violence gets to be too much in films.

The movie is just an hour and a half and it effectively builds a tension and atmosphere fitting to a horror movie. The acting isn’t superb, but it also isn’t distracting or bad. I was entertained enough to feel like I enjoyed my time, not enough so that I would watch this repeatedly. I didn’t find anything so disturbingly scary that it will remain etched in the back of my mind, but it also didn’t get me to a point where I felt I was ready to bite my nails/perch on the edge of my seat in suspense either.

I guess overall, I would call this an average film. Which is okay… there’s nothing wrong with average! (That statement is more of an affirmation to myself, since I am always in a people-pleasing, perfection-seeking role!)

My rating: 3.0 stars

Conversations With The Hubby #10

Not so much a conversation, but an observation by the spouse that made me burst out laughing…

Kevin: Did moths exist before electricity?
