The Forbidden Kingdom

This movie was silly. Silly, silly, silly. The Monkey King character is silly. Jackie Chan’s drunken immortal character is silly. The teen who has the quest is silly. Much silliness…

That said, it was also kind of entertaining. I guess it’s easy to get a kick out of the visual acrobatics of Chinese martial arts on film. And the visuals really are well done in this film. The score is pretty decent as well and I loved the playful lilt it would get whenever the Monkey King character was on screen.

The story is simple enough that it could be enjoyed by parents with their pre-teen kids as well, it’s not specifically target to one generation. This isn’t cinematic brilliance, but it’s fun… or perhaps I should just say it’s silliness.
