Scar Face

Remember when I talked about my “angry acne face“? (An update on the State of the Face should probably come someday…) But right now I feel like I’m working my way toward becoming a “Scar Face”.

First there is the scar around my nose. That’s a pretty major one. When I was in high school I got the chicken pox really bad, I was covered in those things and many of them left scars. I have a pretty decent scar from the pox right between my eyebrows. All the zits that have been cropping up leave spots behind too.

Well, looks like I’m adding another one to the collection.

I have been keeping a lot of my running experiences on my running blog, since most “normal” people don’t like to hear all about training and racing and fueling, etc. But I’m mentioning my most recent experience on here… maybe because I really enjoy all the sympathy. ;-)

Yesterday I ran in the PF Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Phoenix, Arizona. Well, I started running the event. Just 6.7 miles into the race I went down. Face first into the ground. Cut my chin open and had to drop out of the race, go to the hospital and get 9 stitches to close the wound. Super fun!

The scary thing is that I don’t remember falling. I was running and then I was flat on my face on the ground. My friends say that I didn’t seem to make any motions for catching myself. Which kind of terrifies me that maybe I passed out. I had kind of fogginess in my brain that morning. That’s actually a feeling I’ve been carrying around a lot lately. Foggy and dizzy… that’s the best way to explain my physical state most of the time.

I have to get the stitches removed on Friday. I’m going to ask my doctor to order a bunch of blood tests as well. I need to have the peace of mind that nothing is really wrong. And if something is off, then I need to get it fixed.

  1. Yikes, that is kinda scary! I am glad you are going to talk to the doctor about it. You’re smart like that. :-)

  6. Oh my gosh – what a scary experience. I’m so happy to hear that you are okay and I hope the stitches heal soon!

  7. wth, I’d be freaked out too! It could be so many things too…low blood sugar, over exertion, medication you’re taking, a vitamin deficiency, etc. I hope they figure it out.
That sucks that you didn’t get to finish the race after training for it. As for the scars, I think people maybe notice them when they meet someone for the first time, but after that, you don’t really see them any more, you know?

  8. I saw the wounded-jogger picture… Wow, that had to hurt. Glad you’re ok overall. I’d do the same regarding the blood tests – cause sure, it probably was just a bad fall that caught you off guard, but it’s good to know for sure!

  9. Ouch!!! Crazy Girl, I am glad that your injuries weren’t worse! I am sending good vibes to help you heal quickly(with minimal/no scarring!:) Let me know what the Doc says!

  10. Oh my gosh, that IS pretty scary. It’s one thing for it to happen but another not to remember it. Prayers that it won’t be anything serious!

  11. Ouch. Scary. Hope you learn the cause.
