My Little Awards Season

I was given a bloggy award and this one touched me, maybe because I needed a few kind words at the moment when I received it. TRS from Single Solitary Things presented me with this on her site last week.

The fine print: “This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY – nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are extremely charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly written text into the body of their award.”

What she said: Glossy Veneer. Another blog I’ve been reading the longest. Jill is real ladies! That’s what I love about her. She shares her struggles and triumphs – and even photos of pimple, scars and road rash! Jill seems to be all about self-improvement – in a very charming way. Oh… she’s also all about cup cakes! Jill rocks.

Isn’t that nice? Seriously, made my day!

So now to pass it along:

Bethany Actually: Bethany is an amazing person. She doesn’t just comment on people’s sites, she really COMMENTS and pays attention to people. She was a huge support for me when I was fundraising for my marathon with Team In Training this past November and she always has thoughtful words to pass along. She pays attention to details and I appreciate that. I can’t wait until I get to meet her for real (and I may just have to plan a trip to SoCal specifically for that purpose!)

Lost In Splendor: Angela is one of those people that reaches out to build true friendships on the web. It’s very easy to be one of those “just in passing” type friends online, I’m guilty of it on many sites. But sometimes you find someone that just makes an extra effort to make you feel special. That’s what she does, consistently.

Crazy Bloggin’ Canuck: Amber is an amazing woman, the way she handles the adventures of motherhood with such humor and grace amazes me. And I appreciate her even more because she was my awesome roomie at BlogHer ’08, she shared a burger with me while I spilled my guts to her and that was comforting.

The Skinner Family: Melissa has been a friend for a loooooong time now, since way back in the college days. We’ve both watched each other’s lives evolve and change, we share a lot of crazy history. Blogging is such an awesome medium so that I can keep up on what is happening with her family easily. Everyone is busy, it’s nice to be able to stay in touch this way.

Cardine’s Blog: “Cardine” is a friend from way way back… even before college time. She posts interesting things on her site, focusing on themes or covering a specific topic extensively (like movies from an entire year). Either way, I know that I will always find something compelling and will be reminded of her awesome personality.

LVGurl: She has now shut down her blog, but she is a friend in real life so I get to connect with her outside of the blogosphere. She encourages me, she inspires me and she makes me laugh. It’s nice to know that we can count on each other to vent from time to time and I’m grateful that teh interwebs lead me to her!

180/360: She’s also stopped maintaining her blog now, but she’s another strong and beautiful woman. One of the great things about her is the way she speaks her mind and offers me advice, even if sometimes it may be something that others might have a hard time saying. I always know that the words are coming from a place in her that is watching out for me.

Building A Bakery: Kari is such a good friend and it was such fortuitous good luck that I stumbled across her online. She lives right near me and is always available for me, even if I do have to go hang out at her work since she’s working so hard to build a rockin’ business. Seriously, if you come to Vegas you need to visit Retro Bakery. You’ll get great food and the best service in town.

Rumor Has It

This movie made me think that everybody needs a grandmother they can get drunk with and share secrets without fear of judgment. That would be fun…

Oh, that’s not the moral of the movie!

Just like any chick flick, it’s not something to be taken seriously. I thought it was supposed to be more of a comedy than what this film actually was, but it was still enjoyable.

There were some slightly disturbing moments, that hinted as incest possibility. But those were pretty lighthearted and wiped clean pretty fast.

I guess the really nice thing about this film is the message that you don’t have to be exactly like all your family members in order to be close to them. Sometimes it takes a moment of slightly psychotic behavior to make you realize how good you have it, but if you end up closer to your family then it was all worth it?

My rating: 3.0 stars
