Yes, this is a typical Disney, milquetoast, sports film. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, sometimes you want to sit down to a heart-warming, based-on-fact, sports movie. Most of the time we don’t choose that genre, but we’re on a little bit of a Marky Wahlberg kick lately so this made the list.
The main characters did a good job with their roles, although I definitely did not feel that Marky Mark looked like he was 30-years-old. (The supposedly “old” age his Vince Papale character was in this.) But then, people aged quicker back in the 70′s (or something).
Greg Kinnear does a good job in his role as head coach Dick Vermeil. Elizabeth Banks does a good job in her role as the new gal on the block. Everybody did a good job… blah, blah, blah. Everything about this movie was just nice and safe and kind of the movie-equivalent of the BRAT diet.
Wow, this really sounds harsh. I enjoyed the movie, honestly. It’s just that to me, it wasn’t anything remarkable. But if you’re in need of a nice flick to help lift your spirits on a down day, this may be a good option.
