Notable:
Apparently one must be wicked smart to be a pro sniper, figuring trigonometry equations in their head on the fly. Mark Wahlberg’s character’s last name (Swagger) is a derivation of a Marine scout/sniper’s slang for a quick calculation of a bullet’s trajectory, which is SWAG (sophisticated wild ass guess).

My feelings are pretty mixed on this film. It felt really long, like some things were dragged out and convoluted excessively. In reality it was just 2 hours, fairly typical for a feature length action film.
I thought Mark Wahlberg did a good job with his role and it was interesting how so many other key roles were filled by non-”name” actors. It kind of made it easier to get into the story. Sometimes elements of a story can be hidden behind the “star quality” of certain players.
But I also felt like there were several moments where just as I was starting to get an idea of what direction the film may be going, only to have them yank it out from under me and introduce another character into the mix. People’s actions and motivations seem to change very quickly, going from timid to ballsy in a matter of moments.
Overall it is a complicated conspiracy plot that sometimes gets a little ahead of itself. It seems to reel it back in, but not quickly enough to have kept me from getting a little skeptical about the film’s potential each time.
