A Kitchen Computer

One of the sponsors of the 2008 BlogHer conference was HP. I must have wandered by their table about 5 or 6 times just so I could keep drooling over the new HP TouchSmart PC. I’d seen it in commercials and thought it seemed like an awesome replacement for my current kitchen computer.

(Yes, I have a kitchen computer. It is an integral part of my life because I just might die if I have to walk further than 10 feet without having access to some kind of computing device.)

The current kitchen computer is this crappy little tablet computer from HP that is truly on its last legs. It was cutting edge and awesome when it came out, but I think it is probably about 6 years old now. It is super slow and seems to get angry when it has to “think” too hard. But the main reason I need a computer in my kitchen is because I have the majority of my recipes installed there and I use it when cooking. Plus I use Firefox so I can search for measurement/weight equivalents while baking and add items to my shopping list, which I maintain on Gubb. (I then access their mobile site via my cell, I’m saving paper and saving the world… since I always forget to take my reusable bags to the store this is my feeble consolation that I am living a little greener.)

But the HP TouchSmart computer is pretty cool since you can use your fingers on the screen to drag stuff around! And I could control my iTunes library from the kitchen while cooking! And I could leave virtual sticky notes on the screen for my husband to ignore! (Because the only way to leave a note for him that he’ll actually see is to put it right in the middle of the TV screen.) But I was surprised at the size when I saw it at BlogHer. It seemed so…. big.

I asked the rep if they had plans for any other sizes and the response was that a BIGGER version would be released. Oh…. darn.

See, I kind of wanted a smaller one. In fact, if they had said they were going to create a smaller version I would have totally started begging and pleading, “I want to be a tester for one. I’ll sell my blogging soul and write about it all the time if you give me one to test for you. Pretty, pretty please…”

If I cleaned up a counter in my kitchen and relocated the little organizing caddy for mail and receipts, the current size would probably fit rather nicely. But I wanted to put it out there in the blog world for HP – consider a smaller one, just a suggestion, okay? You might have a buyer if you do!
