Breaking Dawn

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Synopsis:
The 4th installment in the Twilight series brings about closure to all the characters. Bella and Edward’s relationship, Bella’s impending immortality, Jacob’s feelings toward Bella, etc.

Thoughts:
This installment is long… very, very, very long. It’s divided into three “books” inside, the first focusing on Bella, the second on Jacob and the third on Bella again.

I thought the first “book” was lots and lots of fluff thrown in so we could get Bella and Edward hitched and let them have sex. It’s been building up throughout all the books and this is what so many people were waiting for. Although nothing is written in a graphic or explicit manner, the sensuality of their relationship is very deep and I have a hard time believing these books are meant for readers “12 and up”.

Jacob’s “book” was pretty interesting, it was fun to see things from his point of view. Even the chapter titles are written in a way that seems inline with his personality.

The last “book” was both good and bad. It felt like there was a lot of build up to get to the final 200 pages, where it gets the most interesting. Much of the build-up is kind of repetitive. But the final 200 pages made up for that and it felt like a decent closure to the series.

There are still flaws for me, I still hate the idea of “imprinting” on someone as your soul mate (even if that person is an infant and you are grown), the writing isn’t really sophisticated (but then it was meant for a teen audience) and Meyer needs to learn some new words to describe how the characters communicate. But this did feel like a good way to end the series, especially after Book 3 left me feeling so cold.

My rating: 3.5 stars
***1/2

I like your reviews on all of the books. I think I too read them too fast. “Midnight Sun” (Edwards’ side of Twilight) was published on the internet…. and is not coming out. Next on my list is THE HOST… as it collects dust by my bedside. I have heard I will like it more than this saga.
