Notable:
Between Aaron Eckhart and Christian Bale, the eye candy in this movie is pretty tasty.

Y’see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little…push.

Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and some menace

The Dark Knight

As I’m writing the review, this movie is currently ranked as the number one movie of all time according to IMDB. I do not agree with that assessment, but it is definitely a solid movie. Christian Bale repeats with a solid Bruce Wayne/Batman performance, possibly even better than he was in the previous film. I liked Maggie Gyllenhaal stepping in to fill the role of Rachel Dawes, she seemed better suited to the role. Gary Oldman is a master, I have no idea what the real Gary Oldman is like, but he just becomes every character I’ve seen him play. Supporting roles from Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are great, you can’t get a bad performance from those men. Aaron Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. I would love to see him really break out and get the recognition he deserves, but in this film he will be overshadowed by the performance of the year. Heath Ledger as The Joker… it’s already been said a whole lot by every media outlet, but after seeing it myself it bears repeating. He was simply amazing and deserves the Academy Award. The mannerisms, movements, voice… he was just so deliciously creepy and perfect, I was mesmerized every time he was on screen. I don’t feel the story was absolutely perfect and the film is long, but it was entertaining and I’m glad I saw it in the theatres.

My rating: 4.0 stars

  1. I thought Aaron was brilliant in it. And I totally agree about the eye candy. And Maggie Gyllenhal. I pretty much agree with everything you said.

  2. I have to say: BEST MOVIE I’VE EVER SEEN. I was surprised, shocked, saddened, amused, tricked…EVERYTHING…which is very rare. I usually can spot things a mile a way…and Heath…my God. He’s incredible. It was the fastest 2 1/2 hours ever…and worth seeing in a theater. I am SO glad I did.

  3. One of my neightbors thought Maggie ruined the role, and was just horrible. I don’t know what she was talking about; like you, I thought she did great.
