Alvin & the Chipmunks

add to kirtsy

Plot:
A struggling songwriter named Dave Seville finds success when he comes across a trio of singing chipmunks: mischievous leader Alvin, brainy Simon, and chubby, impressionable Theodore.
From the IMDB Profile

Notable:
The actors portraying the chipmunks had to speak very slowly and the track was sped up in post-production, just like the original creator did to voice the chipmunks in 1958.

Quote:
They are chipmunks who talk, Dave, people are going to come and see them.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Okay, this is a kids movie. We were intrigued for two reasons: 1) Jason Lee is pretty awesome. 2) We grew up watching the Chipmunks on Saturday morning cartoons. And while I felt a little silly watching this, it was a light and fluffy film that didn’t involve a lot of thinking. Or any thinking. And the ending was a very, very hard wrap… they build up the introduction of the characters for about an hour, have a conflict for about 20 minutes and then wrap it all up in 5. I doubt I’ll watch this again and if I have kids I think I’d rather they watch the Saturday morning cartoons (maybe on DVD?). The DVD did include a short featurette on the history of The Chipmunks, that was kind of interesting. I think the DVD producers blew a good opportunity to include another short feature on the making of this movie, because I think it would have been interesting to see the actors speaking their lines really slowly and watching it get sped up to make the signature chipmunk voice. Oh, and the poop and fart jokes were stupid and unnecessary.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch this. The Chipmunks were the one TV show I was allowed to watch as a kid and The Chipmunk Adventure remains on of my favorite children’s movies EVER. It’s awesome to know you and your Mr. watched them too!
