My mom is doing the marathon with me, although whether or not we are by each other’s side throughout the event remains to be seen.
Anyway, the countdown is on, the marathon is in just over a month. January 13 to be exact. I was a little blown away when I was looking at my training program and realizing that in just a couple weeks I’ll be starting the ‘tapering’ part of my program. This is the time when all of my workouts are shorter and less intense in order to not be completely worn down on the big day.
My mom and I were talking and she was saying that she was looking forward to the time after the marathon, when she can just spend some time on the exercise bike or elliptical or whatever else she felt like doing, instead of following the training program.
My first reaction was, “Hmm… what will I start training for next? Should I find another marathon? Maybe I’ll try a bike event. That would mean I’d have to get a bike. Maybe I’ll climb a mountain. There are so many possibilities!”
My mom paused and said, “Um… why don’t you just try taking a week off or something.”
Huh?
