We are back in The Vegas, and while it’s always nice to get away for a few days, it’s good to be home too.
Some highlights of the trip:
Yogurt World
I have read about the frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry online and was checking to see if there was one in San Diego. I didn’t find a Pinkberry, but I read a lot of reviews of Yogurt World. So we visited and I’m so glad we did. In fact, we went twice. They have 16 flavors of yogurt and it is self-serve. You just make your own blend, add any toppings that you want and the whole thing is weighed at the end. You are charged by ounce. It is very possible to get carried away, but we showed some restraint. I really liked the tart yogurt flavors, especially the green tea. The place gets pretty crowded and the parking lot was awful. But it was worth the hassles. Check this place out if you get a chance.
Cabrillo National Monument
Even though we didn’t have cash to get in to the park and had to find a bank, this was a nice park. The views were beautiful and we went on a hike that was about 3 miles long and just took us closer to the water. There is a lighthouse there which is pretty cool. I enjoy seeing lighthouses, but the first time I mentioned this was a mistake because people started buying me kitschy lighthouse decorative crap. I prefer seeing the ACTUAL lighthouses, not ones embroidered on bathmats.
Massage
We found a spa online and booked massages before our trip. It was my second massage and my husband’s first. I think he probably needs to go in for some regular rubdowns for a while, his back is so full of knots.
Container Store
I love this store. Why don’t we have one in LV? There is something so tantalizing about little containers to hold anything in the whole wide world. I tried to show restraint because my husband said going to this store was like a “chore”.
Ocean Beach
Crazy hippie town, it totally rocked. I indulged in a burger and fries at some joint called Hodad’s. I ordered the chicken burger at first and the guy taking my order looked at me and said, “That’s a deep-fried thing. You sure you want that?” I’m so transparent, he could tell I’m a crazy health nut. So I ordered a regular beef (mini) burger. I felt like such a rebel. That night we went to the farmer’s market in Ocean Beach. That was pretty crazy, people selling fruit, flowers, baked goods, crafts and people standing in the shadows selling other more… illicit items. We ate dinner at a little cafe there too, I had the best sandwich (grilled zucchini, roasted red pepper, lettuce, tomato and chevre on a multi-grain baguette). My husband had a sandwich the size of his head (ham, cranberry, yellow pepper, lettuce on cinnamon walnut bread).
We drove along the 101 through all the little beach towns, we stopped at Balboa Park (the Palm Canyon was amazing), we ate too much, went walking through Mission Bay and visited several little shops. Decent little escape.
