Mad Hatter Cupcakes

I met LVGurl at Mad Hatter Cupcakes where I got to meet her hubby and kids. They’re a great family, so friendly!

Mad Hatter Cupcakes has a great little shop, it’s got fun colors and decor. There are several little tables so you can sit and enjoy your cupcake. I know that having tables requires the installation of a bathroom (which they have), but it really makes a great enhancement to the overall environment. The color scheme of browns and lime green was cute too.

The whole concept of Mad Hatter is pretty cool too, where they have several flavors of cupcakes, several flavors of fillings and several flavors of frostings. You can choose one of their signature (shop-designed) combinations or you can be creative and customize your own. Each mix is put together right before your eyes.

Cupcakes in PackagesThere are also some other nice “attention-to-details” things about the shop too. If you get your cupcakes to go, they place each treat in an individual little plastic shell. This way the different flavor profiles don’t rub up against each other and the chances of them getting smooshed into the others is lessened. Plus, the plastic shells are recyclable!

The foil wrappers they are in are sturdy, basically supplying a little plate for the cupcake when peeled back from the edges. And they do offer you a fork in the shop, so you can eat the cupcake in a little more tidy manner. (Which I prefer, but many people attribute the success of the cupcake booms to the forkless nature, but I’m excessively tidy…)

I purchased three cupcakes; one for me, one for my hubby and a seasonal-flavor for us to split.

Lemon Cupcake1. Mad About Lemon
This is from their “Mad About Flavors” menu and consists of a lemon cupcake, lemon crème filling and lemon zest frosting. Truthfully, I was a little disappointed in the flavor – it didn’t seem to have as intense of lemon flavor as I anticipated. Plus the cake was a little dry. So this place isn’t tops for me in terms of lemon cupcakes, but it was still tasty and my husband devoured the rest of mine so none was wasted.

Carrot Cupcake2. Wascally Wabbit
This was from their “Signature Cupcakes” menu and was a carrot cupcake, orange crème filling and cream cheese frosting. The cupcake had raisins and nuts throughout and was pretty tasty, not a strong spice profile. The orange in the filling was pleasant, not too overwhelming. And the frosting was a pretty decent cream cheese. They placed little orange and carrot candies on the top, to help with the flavor identification if you had a ton of cupcakes, but it also is a cute little accent. Not really necessary in terms of flavor though.

Pumpkin Cupcake3. My own creation
Lastly, I put together my own concoction when I saw their seasonal flavor – pumpkin. For the filling I chose a chocolate ganache and had them put a white chocolate frosting on the top. This was my favorite, the cupcake was moist and I really liked the pumpkin flavor with the chocolates. I did put it in the fridge overnight, so the white chocolate frosting got a little hard. If I had set it out longer it probably would have softened up more.

While they weren’t the most ground-breaking cupcakes I’ve experienced, they were pretty good and the environment of the shop really makes it a nice experience. The staff was friendly and I would give them another shot, after all… the flavor combinations are so numerous and tempting!

Blood Diamond

Plot:
A fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond.
From the IMDB Profile

Notable:
Now I have to worry about where all my diamonds came from. My multitudes of diamonds. HA!

Quote:
I like to get kissed before I get f***ed.

Thoughts:
This movie brings up some interesting societal questions, it makes you wonder where things that we take for granted in every day life (not just diamonds) come from and who has to suffer for us to feel ‘pretty’. Djimon Hounsou has to be one of the most solid actors around. And while I didn’t understand all the fuss surrounding Leo DiCaprio when he first started getting big, he has really developed into an amazing actor. The scenery is pretty damn incredible in this movie as well.

Rating: R for strong violence and language

On Amazon: Blood Diamond (Widescreen Edition)
