The Cupcakery

It has been tradition for a really long time that I have lemon cake for my birthday. But since there are just two of us, we don’t really need a whole cake sitting around the house. So we decided to visit The Cupcakery to get an individual-sized portion of cake. This place was recognized by the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Best of Las Vegas 2007 as the Best Dessert (newspaper’s choice). And boy, was it tasty.

CupcakesI had the Lemonberry cupcake, there was no question about what flavor I would be getting. The web site describes it as “A zesty lemon cake topped with a decadent blueberry frosting.” The texture was amazing, so light and moist, it was a really good cupcake. And the frosting was the perfect complement.

My spouse had the Southern Belle (wow, that’s a goofy sounding name for a man to order, good thing he didn’t see that name and just called it the “red velvet one”.) The cupcake is described by the company as “Sumptuous red velvet cake smothered with cream cheese frosting”. His was really good, but the texture wasn’t as good as the lemon one.

They also had some sample pieces of two flavors, so I tried a small piece of their Good Morning, Cupcake! flavor. The description for that one: “Moist yellow cake with cinnamon swirl topped with a sweet glaze”. It was really good, the cinnamon flavor really complemented the cake.

My only complaint about the restaurant was that they only had two little tiny tables inside to sit and enjoy your treat. And the tables weren’t really tables. They were metal, decorative, lattice-y type tables. Maybe if they cut a circle of glass to sit on top they would have been more functional, but it didn’t make it very easy to sit and enjoy the dessert. And it probably goes against all cupcake law, but I would have liked to have a fork so I could have savored my cupcake even longer (and to make sampling my hubby’s even easier).

  1. I have come to really love cupcakes. It seems as I get older, I like pies and tarts more than cake, but one perfect cupcake makes me divinely happy.

  2. I am now craving lemon cupcakes. lol

Looks delicious and I love the idea of birthday cupcakes instead of cakes.

  3. Loralee: My hubby prefers pies too. I’m not a big cake fanatic, but for my birthday the lemon cake tradition has to hold. And I LOVE the idea of a cupcake because they’re so cute and it’s a controlled portion too!

SparklieSunShine: Hop on a plane and fly on out, I’ll treat you to a lemon cupcake! ;-) I’m craving them too, maybe it was bad to treat myself to it (and keep a picture of it around) because now that I’ve tasted it… I may drive myself crazy. At least the place was about 25 miles on the other side of town, so it’s not an easy stop for anywhere I usually go!

  4. Hi Jill,

I am so glad you enjoyed the lemonberry cupcake. it was a special flavor of the month but it was so popular it makes a regular appearance now. Also you mentioned you drove across town, as many, many do. The new store will be open very early October at the 215 and Lake Mead and it will also be larger for you to enjoy cupcakes at the store as wellas some exclusive merchandise.

    Best,
    Sara

  5. Sara: I’m not sure whether I should thank you or curse you for that information. A much closer option will require me to greatly increase my workout times because I will be very tempted to visit more frequently!

Thank you for the info, I really appreciate your comment! When the new store opens I’m sure I will be there with my camera and appetite ready.

  6. Now that we’re opening our own bakery, I can tell you EXACTLY why there are no seats: $$$$.
I have to do the build out on our building, and you need to add additional restrooms if you serve food (and that could run you thousands). It’s just a WHOLE lot easier to be a take-out only…that’s probably what happened. I was hoping to be a cute little cafe, but that’ll have to be later…

  7. Retro Bakery: That makes complete sense. I have never looked into the prices, difficulties or requirements of building a bakery!
