Just Nothingness

I feel like I want to write something but I do not have a specific topic in mind. This post is just to get random crap out of my head, so I can attempt to sleep tonight.

  • Even though I enjoyed my brother-in-law’s visit, that doesn’t mean I’m looking forward to this family reunion thing yet. They’re having a talent show and I told my mother-in-law that we’ll watch, but we probably won’t have any contributions to the show. Her response, “Why don’t you play a flute duet with [Kevin's younger sister]?” Um… probably because we don’t live in the same city or even the same state so practicing would be hard. And maybe because I haven’t played the flute in 10 years or so. And quite possibly because I don’t have a flute, it’s at my mom’s house.
  • The other thing with the reunion that is really exciting to me now? Getting me so totally pumped? The proposition of a family softball game. I LOVE playing team sports. And by LOVE, I am actually meaning LOATHE. I am a solo exerciser and I rarely enjoy these kinds of things.
  • I went to my cooking class tonight. Before I went I just had a big plate of salad, lots and lots of vegetables. My logic was that I could then sample whatever we cooked in class without feeling over-stuffed. So I went to class and that’s when I realize that the topic for tonight’s class was Russian Cooking. Hmm… We made three dishes and all of them contained caraway seeds. Just like the last bullet point, I LOVE caraway. And by LOVE, once again I mean LOATHE! So I basically went hungry.
  • And now I’m surfing and trying to ignore American Idol. My husband turned it on when he got home from work. I vowed to be done with it last year and I’m trying to stick with that, but when there is no other show on TV that interests the spouse on Tuesday nights and he won’t just turn to the iTunes library… Idol tends to be on in my house.

Alright, that’s done.

The Negotiator

Plot:
In a desperate attempt to prove his innocence, a skilled police negotiator accused of corruption and murder takes hostages in a government office to gain the time he needs to find the truth.
From the IMDB Profile

Notable:
The movie was originally written to star Sylvester Stallone and Kevin Spacey. Spacey was supposed to be the hostage-taker and Stallone playing opposite him. When Stallone turned down the part, Spacey decided he wanted the other part and had his original part recast.

Quote:
I once talked a guy out of blowing up the Sears Tower but I can’t talk my wife out of the bedroom or my kid off the phone.

Thoughts:
This was a pretty good movie, nice blend of drama and action. And with Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson in the leads, you know you’ve got some talented folks heading the show. There are several very talented people in supporting roles too, like Paul Giamatti and Ron Rifkin. The movie was a little long, just a shade over 2 hours. The F-word is tossed around in abundance, maybe a bit too much since it doesn’t add much emotion after the thousandth time hearing it yelled. Overall, very well done movie simply because of the talented folks that were cast.

Rating: R for violence and language
