Holiday Party

My husband made the comment the other night, “My work Christmas party is this weekend.”

“WHAT?! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“I did. Last week I told you, ‘I think my work party is the first weekend in December.’”

“Well, I didn’t realize that December was so close. Crap. Now I have to find something to wear.”

This is like, the only grown-up equivalent to a prom I have. I think I own 2 dresses right now, both of which are too big for me and aren’t really “party” type dresses. Not exactly the image I want to project when going to a fancy party in a ballroom at a casino with all the partner’s from Kevin’s company and where every other woman will be in a sequined and/or strapless dress.

I have a really hard time going shopping. I need my mommy with me to give me honest feedback on whether clothing items work for me. But she doesn’t live here and this is really last minute.

I wonder if can just wear sweat pants. Oh, but that would mean I’d have to buy sweat pants first since I don’t even own those.

The Lake House

Plot:
A lonely doctor (Bullock) who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect (Reeves). They must try to unravel the mystery behind their extraordinary romance before it’s too late.
From the IMDB Profile

Notable:
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves really do seem to have a good chemistry on screen.

Quote:
Oh, we have a comedian! What, did you eat clown for breakfast?

Thoughts:
The romantic drama doesn’t seem to make much of a blip on the movie radar lately. While this one didn’t make a big splash at the box office, I enjoyed it. Many people have complained about the whole time travel element. That didn’t bother me so much. Lots of things in romances are fiction*, love at first sight, childhood sweethearts so why not magical mailboxes or whatever. The supporting players in this film didn’t really matter much, the leads carried the story and made me give a damn about their relationship for 1 hour and 39 minutes. I’d probably even watch it again.

* Yep, I’m pretty jaded. There’s just too much in real life that isn’t at all romantic for me to really believe in romance.
