Okay, I’ll Play

Very Mom asked people to show their makeup bags and the contents of the bag. Since I’m too tired to organize all the thoughts flying through my head on any other post, I’m playing along. And I thought it was an entertaining idea.

My Makeup Bag:

My Makeup Bag

I got this bag in 2001 at a Sephora on the Champs Elysees in Paris. Sounds fancy and exotic, huh? Truth is, the zipper on my makeup bag broke while there and I knew I needed something to contain the stuff before a return flight. So I bought a cheap makeup bag while out sightseeing.

The Contents of My Makeup Bag:

My Minimal Makeup

The photo on the Flickr site has notes applied to all the different objects. Basic idea is that I don’t usually wear makeup since I telecommute. I comb my eyebrows and apply a little powder to control shine. I have naturally rosy skin, so when I do go out in public I try to cover it up big time. That natural “glow” also makes me intensely afraid of blush because I don’t want to look like I’m embarrassed all the time. Unfortunately if I do blush during the day, it tends to stay that way the whole day unless I apply cold compresses. So I cover it up. If I had to declare a makeup MUST HAVE, I guess I’d say eyeliner. I’m weird that way, but I like to define the outside corners of my eyes a little. Not that anyone could tell. I take a really long time going through makeup. Probably too long.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Plot:
In 1939, an intrepid reporter in New York City makes a connection between the story she’s covering– of famous scientists suddenly disappearing around the world, and a recent attack on the city by giant robots. Determined to find the solution to these happenings, she seeks the help of her ex-boyfriend, the captain of a mercenary legion of pilots. The two are investigating the case when the robots attack the city again, though in a stroke of luck, Sky Captain’s right hand man is able to locate their source. They then set off on an adventure in search of the evil mastermind behind these schemes, who is bent on creating a utopia and destroying the current world.

Notable:
Technically, it’s brilliant. The film was shot against a green screen and filled in with computer generated background footage.

“Lenscap.”

Thoughts:
I thought the technical achievements of this film were fascinating. But overall, the film was lacking. Was it the story? No… because I think the general idea of the story “Newspaper reporter links developing story to plot to destroy the world. Teams up with adventurer to save the day.” works. I think the problem was character development, or lack of character development. I didn’t know who any of these characters were and I questioned why I should care what they’re running around doing. A couple extra moments of character introduction and a few moments of extraneous forced dialogue removed, probably could have fixed it so the movie was a little more watchable.
