I’m sure everybody finds problems with their new location whenever they move. Many people have assumed that the heat would be the issue I would have a problem with. The heat actually hasn’t bothered me that much. Others have assumed that the whole “Sin City” atmosphere might make for a strange living environment, but that’s been interesting too. The biggest downside of moving to The Vegas thus far is the media.
Yes, the media. Let me count the ways the media has sucked so far…
1. Radio: There is not a decent radio station in this town. It’s either all rap, or all Kelly Clarkson or all Ozzy. I can’t find an alternative rock station. I’m seriously contemplating XM or Sirius or something so I can find music I enjoy. It’s sad when you have to get your fix by listening to 30 second clips on iTunes. Radio sucks.
2. News: Yikes, the news is so bad here. You would think that since Las Vegas is television market 51 they would be producing a better show. But NO… All the channels have so many technical difficulties, the reporters seem like they are just out of school and should be working in tiny markets in remote parts of the country and I recently watched some anchors that looked like they were pulled off the convention center floor, given a jacket to cover their bikini tops, told to sit behind a desk and read the words that appeared in front of them. News sucks.
3. TV Schedule: I am having a very hard time adjusting to life on Pacific time. The news ends at 5:30 and then they have 2.5 hours of trashy entertainment programs on before primetime begins. Once Survivor starts, my mom could watch the show in Utah, call me at the end and tell me who got voted off and the show still won’t be starting here for another hour! Scheduling sucks.
4. Antenna TV: We requested to have DISH Network installed at the end of July and we still have not had an installer come to our home. They have rescheduled us and pushed us back and I have had to live with watching TV off of crummy rabbit ears for a month now. This town has a ton of spanish channels and (surprisingly) religious channels on public airwaves. Antenna TV sucks.
Dish Network is supposed to be here tomorrow. If they call and reschedule, they will feel the wrath. Trust me, even though I didn’t unleash it on the pube-serving-restaurant, I will unleash it when it comes to TV. At least I’ve been getting some good mileage out of the Netflix account lately.
