The Difference a Year Makes

One year ago…

My mom had just turned 50. She and my dad had been vacationing in San Diego and returned home to a flurry of phone messages for my mother. The results from her annual check-up were in, she had cancer. She started her surgeries the following week.

Fast forward…

Yesterday my mom turned 51. The cancer has been removed. She’s been through several surgeries, emotional ups/downs and physical challenges. But she made it through everything and she is nearly 100% back to normal. Yes, there will always be the fear that the cancer will come back in a different location, but the odds are lower since everything was caught so early and because my mom lives such a healthy lifestyle.

It’s amazing what a difference one year can make.

Feeling

Overwhelmed:
I’m supposed to be packed up and out of my house in 2 weeks. Yikes! I haven’t done much except load my living room furniture into the interim housing. Guess I’d better get serious about this, huh?

Bewildered:
When I do close on my house, what exactly happens? I guess I will learn as I go through the process of selling a home, just as I learned about the process of buying as I was going through everything.

Irritated:
It started raining while I was walking across campus for lunch. Not just any rain, the kind of pouring rain that dumps buckets of rain and usually only lasts about 10 minutes. Unfortunately that 10 minutes fell right when I was outside. I had to run to my car, still got soaked and broke the heel of my shoe in the process. Stupid, crappy, cheap shoes.

Frustrated:
There are no decent stores here to find replacement dress shoes. I could go to Payless, but they don’t have anything that I like. I refuse to go to Wal-Mart because I’ve seen too many people trying on shoes without socks and I don’t want to get any nasty fungus on my feet.

Confused:
Recently both my sister-in-law and my best friend have contacted me and want to buy my Neon. Why is this car in such high demand? I hate the piece of crap and can’t wait to get rid of it, yet all these people are approaching me about buying the damn thing. The problem is that I can’t get rid of it yet because my husband and I have schedules that are too different to get by on one vehicle. We were planning on selling my car just before we moved to Vegas and then buying a new car down there to make the whole licensing process easier.
