We sat down with our realtor last night. We accepted the offer that came in for our house yesterday since it was a full-price offer and the buyer didn’t really ask much of us. The only thing on our counter was that we changed a line from the original offer. The original offer stated that we would close and turn over the residence in “50 days or sooner”. My realtor wanted to change that so it read that the closing would happen in “50 days. If sooner, both parties must agree upon a specific date.” That way we don’t sign something that technically says they could try closing and forcing us out in a week.
This is a little overwhelming. I’m very relieved that we are selling our house and that I will have that money freed up for my Vegas housing purchase. But at the same time, I’m a little sad that the house won’t be mine soon. Sentimental attachment to an inanimate object, but the inanimate object has been good to me for the past three years.
I’m also not looking forward to moving to the condo my brother is vacating next week and then moving again this summer. I have a feeling that the next several months are going to feel like I’m living out of a box. I guess that’s the price I have to pay for “growing up” and moving on in life.
There is also the overwhelming feeling of “What am I going to do with all my stuff?”
- I will not need my lawn mower anymore, because I probably will not have a lawn in The Vegas. We’re thinking we might give it to Kevin’s parents, because his dad is using a ridiculous little push mower and he’s getting too old to use that thing.
- I also have a washer and dryer. The condo we’re moving into has a washer and dryer installed so I won’t need them for several months. I’ve also made the discovery that I will probably have to get a new dryer in Vegas because my current one is electric and all new developments down there are requiring gas dryers because they are more energy efficient. (The Vegas has all sorts of rules and regulations that are being put in place when it comes to water and energy efficiency.) Plus, if I sign with one housing community by April 15, then they will give me a washer and dryer, so then I’d have both appliances to get rid of.
- I have several pieces of furniture that I will either (a) be donating to charity or (b) trying to store for several months because I will need them when I move but won’t be able to keep them in the condo.
Plus I’ve come to the realization that I won’t have a microwave when I move into the condo. My house has a microwave installed above the stove, thus it stayed with the house. My next place will most likely have a microwave installed above the stove. My microwave that I owned when I was single was bequeathed to my brother as a wedding gift. Do I buy a microwave for a couple months? I don’t think a person can live without a microwave, can they? How do you prepare a meal without a microwave? Is that possible anymore?
Every step of this process I seem to have some of the millions of questions swirling around in my head answered, only to have them replaced by millions more.
