Oscars, Babies and Fondue

After taking a quick run to check out Lake Mead, we left Las Vegas yesterday and got home at about 2:00 in the afternoon, just in time for Kevin to get cleaned up and get to work. I did a little cleaning around the house, ran to the grocery store to buy some essentials (like tomato juice, you know… important things!) and had just enough time to inhale a bowl of Grape Nuts before going to a friend’s house to watch the Oscars.

I went to Brad and Melissa’s to watch the Academy Awards. They were having a fondue party. It was funny because there were so many little kids there. There were three babies 6 months of age, a 2-year-old and a couple 3-year-olds. The babies were the funniest. It was like a strange bald-headed brigade, scooting and rolling across the floor around all of our feet. Everywhere you looked there was baby, trying to eat something they shouldn’t be eating. Plus when you add fondue and toddlers to the mix, it made for a messy party. And there was the ever popular line, that was usually cried out right before the winner of a major award was announced, “I have to go potty.”

But it was fun to go out and spend time with friends. I love hanging out with Brad and Melissa. They’ve been my friends since college and they haven’t let having kids change them at all. I have other friends that act like having children is this huge burden and they are constantly complaining about having to find someone to watch them so they can get away. Brad and Melissa just act the same as they did before, except now they have two other people in their family.

While other friends make me think “Sterilize me now!” when I see them with their children, Brad and Melissa make me think that having children wouldn’t be so terrible.

In about 5 or more years!

Viva Las House Hunting

I’m tired. (Why am I writing this instead of going to bed? I don’t know exactly, okay?)

We have been to so many different housing developments in the Las Vegas valley and we are faced with so many different decisions.

Do we buy the place that has an awesome floorplan and is in a great area with nice amenities*, but doesn’t have much yard (or really any yard, compared to what I’m used to)?

Do we buy the place that is in a relatively new area with pretty much zero amenities*, but has tons of future potential growth and allows us to actually have a backyard?

Do we really need the features offered in gated communities? (No. But is the floorplan worth it that we would pay the HOA dues to live in these communities?)

What is the work commute for Kevin going to be like?

What is it going to be like for me, to spend all day in the house?

So many choices. And these are big choices that will affect our lives in the long run.

(Not like the “Whoa… there are so many restaurants. Where should we eat?” choices. Those only affect us temporarily. I guess they could be long-term, if we buy really unhealthy food and it sticks to our asses and we don’t work it off! We chose Mimi’s Cafe and Joe’s Crab Shack for dinners. But we also spent time at Whole Foods Market buying snacks. Yum… pita chips.)

Anyway, I guess I’ve rambled on and on. I’m going to wash my face and get some rest. We have to drive home tomorrow morning so Kevin can get to work for the afternoon and evening.

*amenities: shopping and restaurants
