I’ve had two opportunities this week to share my “knowledge” with groups of people.
Opportunity #1:
I was the guest lecturer for an upper-division information systems class on campus. The students asked intelligent questions and took notes. Students were taking notes on things I had to say! I spoke for 50 minutes and then several students had additional questions for me after class.
Opportunity #2:
I spoke to a juvenile delinquent group on careers in technology. Remember in high school how there was a stupid kid that blurted out lame things in class, just to hear their own voice? (Who knows, maybe YOU were that kid…) Well, this was a room full of that kid. They asked ridiculous questions, told me that I’m old and they don’t see a point in getting jobs when you can play video games all day.
These experiences taught me that I don’t ever want to work with juvenile delinquents on a regular basis. And if I ever give birth to one of these people, then I’ll just have to trade them in for a well-behaved model. I’m only kidding…. kind of.
In all honesty, I do feel bad for the kids because you could tell their home lives weren’t very good just based on the things they said. One kid said that he couldn’t come to their meeting next week because it was at a different location and the only reason his mom brings him to the location they regularly meet at is because it’s on the way to the bar and then he has to walk home. It was kind of depressing.
Anyway, I’m in my office right now and it has started snowing so I’m going to leave so I can go home and hole up for the night.
