Reaching the end of the Incident?

Well, this Friday it will have been 5 weeks since the “Butt Incident” occurred. And yes, I am still dealing with the aftermath of said incident.

Physically, I am still bruised and I still have pain at times. I definitely feel it if I sit in certain ways, move too quickly and I still can’t lay on my back. But I went to the gym last night, the first time since this happened, and I actually managed to get through 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer. The last 10 minutes were quite painful, but it felt good to exercise again.

But the real thing that is driving me crazy, is the pursuit of insurance information. I started getting bills from the hospital and letters telling me that since I had “insufficient 3rd party liability” insurance, they were sending the bills directly to me. And only after I receive those letters and begin to stress about what I’m going to do, the theatre finally feels like they should start returning my calls and emails.

First, I was informed I had to go talk to the local theatre manager. He had me fill out a document that asked questions about the accident. The form had a question asking me to draw a big X on a diagram of a person as to where my injuries were sustained. So of course, I drew a big X over the butt and lower back. The next item on the form asked if there was bruising, so I said yes. Then the form specified that a theatre employee should measure the bruise. Hmm… so I asked the manager if he wanted me to drop my pants so he could measure the bruise or did he just want to take my word for it? He seemed very uncomfortable and said that he would take my word. So I wrote that the main bruise was at least 7 inches across with several smaller bruises around.

After I finished, I returned the form to the manager and he said it would go to their corporate office. He also told me that the next time I fall down at the movies I should come to him immediately. The next time I fall down? Yeah, I’m not making a habit out of this. In fact, I’ve been to two movies since this happened and my husband held onto me pretty tightly to make sure I didn’t fall down.

Then today, the theatre’s insurance company called me. They needed to get a recorded statement of what happened.

Were there any witnesses?
“Yes a whole theatre full of them.”

Did you know any of them?
“Only my best friend. I went to the movie with her.”

Can we have her name and phone number?
“Yes. They are….”

What movie did you see?
“Wimbledon.”

Were you drinking any alcoholic beverages at the time?
“No.”

Were you on any medications at the time?
“No. Just birth control!”

Do you fall down frequently?
“No.”

Have you fallen down any other times that you filed claims on?
“No.”

After they were satisfied that I wasn’t a drunken druggie that falls down everywhere I go, they gave me their information and I forwarded that onto the hospital billing department.

My best friend called and said that she received a call from the insurance company (already!) and all they asked her was what movie we saw and where I was bruised. Kind of strange questions for the verification process, but I don’t care. As long as this gets taken care of and I can move on! I feel like I’m finally moving toward the end of the experience.

Of course, maybe the movie theatre chain should give me some free passes or something, just for my pain and suffering and for making me wait so damn long before responding to me!
