Say My Name!
Why do musicians feel the need to say their own name in their songs? I’ve noticed this is a growing trend. Limp Bizkit says their name is almost all of their songs. Sometimes they even try spelling their name. Usher says his name in the song ‘Yeah’. I know I’ve noticed other people doing this but they’re escaping my memory at this moment. But I just don’t understand the need to do this. Is it so that we won’t forget who is singing while we’re listening? Is it so they won’t forget who they are?
If you’ve ever watched South Park then you probably know the character Timmy. Timmy is in a wheelchair, is handicapped and the only thing he can say is “TIMMY!”. He holds entire conversations by just saying his name over and over.
Anyway, my husband and I have decided that artists that say their own name in their songs is the musical equivalent of South Park’s Timmy. Except Timmy is way cooler.
