Damn. I was subpoened to court. I have to appear on June 14. I’m assuming it is conjunction with our witnessing a drunk driving accident a little while ago. The subpoena didn’t say much except for the name of the case. I didn’t ever introduce myself to the drunk, so if it’s his name or not – I don’t know. But I was bummed when I heard the news. I was just doing my duty as a responsible citizen by stopping and helping to report what happened, but now I have to spend time in court. (Ironic that I don’t feel that it is my responsibility to go to court, huh?)
And in other unrelated issues…. When you go on vacation you always come back to tons of work or things that need to be done. I never imagined that I’d come home from vacation and have the United States Postal Service angry with me. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating, but they certainly weren’t pleased with us. See, my in-laws are moving here from far Northern Alaska. It is cheaper to box items up and send them through the mail then to ship everything at once using a moving service, so they’ve been sending boxes to us. We’ve received about 30 boxes so far, with about 20 of those arriving at the Post Office while we were gone. They made several attempts to deliver the packages, but everyday we were gone, they would get more boxes in the mail. They left little notices telling us they had tried to deliver and to contact them, so when we got back in town, my husband called the 1-800 number to arrange a time they could deliver all of the boxes. The national office said that it would be 24 hours before they delivered. But the local office received the request for delivery from corporate and called us immediately and said, “Can we come bring these boxes now? We kind of want to get rid of them. They take up too much space.” So now, instead of taking up space at the post office, they’re all over my house. I wonder how many more are in transit….
