Civically Responsible Part II

Okay, so I went home for lunch and looked at my subpoena papers. It said the case is “The State of Utah vs. {Some name here}“. (I’m putting the name in brackets because it’s probably not right to post it here and I don’t remember it anyway.) Like I said before, I assumed it had to do with the drunk driver vs. truck incident we witnessed but I didn’t know for sure. I’m not involved with too many issues that would involve court cases on a regular basis, so that’s all I could guess.

Anyway, while I was eating we received a phone call from somebody at the courts. She said that the delivering officer told her that we didn’t recognize the name and she realized that the name had been printed incorrectly and the actual case was “The State of Utah vs. {Some completely different name}“. Then she asked us “Does that sound better?” Nope… still don’t know that name. She seemed surprised but then told us it was pertaining to a DUI accident that we witnessed. Okay, that makes sense….

I don’t know why she was surprised. Did she honestly expect us to go introduce ourselves to the guy? I thought about exchanging emails and trying to get together for lunch with the dude, but with all the cops around and when he was cuffed in the back of the car, the opportunity was never presented. (That last line was meant with copious amounts of sarcasm, in case you didn’t pick up on it.)
