Too Dumb to Game… or Too Old?

The spouse and I are thinking about getting an X-Box. Why? We don’t know exactly. Here are the reasons I can come up with.

1. Sometimes it’s just fun to mindlessly veg out in front of a video game. Especially if you get to beat the crap out of somebody in said game.

2. The mother-in-law gave us $100 and told us to spend it on something fun. We are not allowed to spend it on food or anything practical. $100 doesn’t get you too far in the fun spectrum, it won’t purchase a beach escape or a trip to see Wicked on Broadway, but we also didn’t want to spend it on a bunch of DVD’s, since we buy way too many of those anyway. So the X-Box would be something that could be fun.

3. The X-Box went on sale this week. Microsoft might introduce the X-Box 2 next year, so the price of the current X-Box is dropping. Thus is almost fits into the $100 bracket. We’d just have to spend a little extra on the box and to get a game or two to start .

The problem, we’ve come to realize, is that we’ve gotten old and now we stare at the selection of video games and don’t have a clue what is a good game, what is fun, etc. I don’t trust the judgment of the 11 & 12-year-old boys hanging around in the video game section to give me advice either. I’m scared of 11/12-year-old boys. They are confusing creatures. Why would you purposely set up a jump for your bike that propels you into the side of a building? Why would you kick shrubs in the neighbors yard? Why would you try lighting plastic toys on fire on the sidewalk? If I ever have a son, I’m going to ship him away from the age of 10 until he’s about 14, because I can’t understand them. In fact, if I have any kids, I’m just going to ship them away for their middle school years because those are terrible years and kids are just irritating then. Middle school age boys just break stuff and girls are way too emotional at that time.

Back to the subject on hand, since I’m so inexperienced and stupid on this subject, what are the best video games out there people? I’m so lost. Help me, help me, help me….

While It’s Not Always Accurate…

About a week and a half ago we had a sudden temperature surge. It changed from mid-40′s to the upper-70′s in just a couple days. One week ago yesterday, we even hit the 80 degree mark. Naturally, the warm weather caused people to start venturing out in shorts, tank tops and sandals. The problem is that the temperature dropped back to the mid-50′s and people are still dressing like it is in the 70-80′s. I passed a girl on campus this morning who had on a tank top, miniskirt and sandals. She had goosebumps all over her arms and legs, was shivering and hugging her arms as she walked. I just don’t understand this phenomenon. Why don’t people try paying attention to the news to get some kind of idea as to what the temperature outside will be, and then dress appropriately? It makes me colder as I walk past them!
