Salad

I’m taking the afternoon off work so we can try to hit Las Vegas before insane amounts of weekend traffic start and also before it starts snowing here. We’d be driving south, so even if it starts snowing before we leave we wouldn’t have too far to drive in it, but I just want to leave. Now if only it was supposed to a good weather weekend. Oh well.

Before I can leave, I have to have lunch with the best friend. I love my best friend, she is great. But she makes me chuckle because of some odd quirks. She is currently on a diet and for some reason, I have to go out for salad with her since I am “the only person she knows that actually likes salad.” I happen to know of several other people who like salad, but that’s not the point. The point is that she looks at this meal as a torture, something you have to endure in order to lose weight. When I used to order salads when we went to lunch, she would get mad at me and say “Why are you ordering that? You don’t need to lose weight!” In reality, I was ordering the salad because it sounded good. Last time we went to lunch, I ordered a sandwich because that sounded appetizing and she chastised me for that, “I thought we were ordering salads today!” It’s funny.

I think because I was raised with more ‘balanced’ eating habits than she was, it’s difficult for her to change and she thinks the way I eat on a regular basis is weird. Who knows, maybe I do eat a weird diet. I don’t know what other people eat on a regular basis. Maybe I’m the weird one and eating vegetables and fruits is supposed to be difficult. Don’t misunderstand me, I do enjoy my chocolate as much as the next woman, but that’s not all I eat. Maybe I should post what I eat and allow all 2.5 of you that read my blog inform me if I eat weird meals. Hmmm…. that might be a future post.

Cold and Vegas

It’s been dreary, wet and cold all day but in the last 2 hours, the sun has come back out. It makes the view out my office window a little bit more pleasant, but it’s still really cold out there. The wind has kicked up and weather.com tells me that snow is still forecasted for the next couple days. I’m really ready for some warmth. We’ve had really warm winters for the past 8 years or so and I’d gotten accustomed to those. I’m so moving to someplace warm when my husband graduates….again. As long as we both get good jobs at this new, warm location.

Speaking of the spouse, we have to go to Las Vegas tomorrow evening. Why? No…we’re not playing. He gets to take the GMAT and since they don’t offer it here in town, we had to choose one of the two closest locations: Provo, Utah or Las Vegas. Given the choice, I’m obviously going to Vegas because Provo kind of frightens me. Anyway, we’re staying at a Best Western that is a very long way from the Strip so that we’re closer to the testing center that he has to be at by 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. What will I do during this time? Sit in the hotel room, read and be lazy. The test should take about 3 hours and then we will think of something to do until we drive back home that same day. Probably go shopping at stores that don’t exist in Southern Utah and I’ll throw my obligatory dollar’s worth of quarters into a slot machine, lose them and walk on.
