Kudos

Fall is here. Officially. According to the news it happened at 4:47 AM this morning. How do they gauge what time Fall is here? I’m kind of curious on that one. I’m sure it’s some scientific trivia that is way beyond anybody’s normal level of caring, but it still kind of made me wonder. At 4:46 AM it was still summer, but then it became Fall at 4:47 AM. Just weird.

Also, I have to announce, my friend Neil launched his newly redesigned web site the other day. (Well, it’s not really HIS. It’s the site that he’s the webmaster for. Picky, picky picky.) If you had seen it before, you’d notice it’s a huge improvement. So, big props to Neil! Good job my apprentice….. (hee hee)

Emmys

Justice has been served in the world. At least in one major area in televison last night. At the 55th Annual Emmy Awards, Door-to-Door won a bunch of Emmys. They won:
- Made-for-TV Movie
- Actor, Miniseries or Movie: William H. Macy
- Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special
- Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special

I wrote about this movie when it first aired on TNT. It was wonderful and fully deserving of all the accolades it received. There’s a lot of junk on TV lately, but this is a rare gem that has made a lasting impact on my life. The entire story is one that is touching and powerful. If TNT is smart and re-airs the movie, everybody should watch it.

Now, just to be perfectly truthful here, I didn’t see any of the other Made-for-TV movies that were nominated so I’m not saying they were of a lower-caliber. But this was an exceptional piece of work.

And on another note, I saw ‘Matchstick Men’ this week. Good flick. Nic Cage did a great job, as usual, but Allison Lohman and Sam Rockwell were terrific and deserving of some praise as well. The story is interesting and unique as well. It’s based on a book by Eric Garcia, which I didn’t know going into the movie but noticed that in the credits. I’ll have to look into that. I can read books that movies were based from, but I can’t read a book that is based on a movie. That just seems silly.
